Dorothea W. “Dottie” Anderson, 98, of Clearfield died Thursday, March 13, 2014 at the Clearfield Hospital.

She was born Jan. 29, 1916, in New York City, NY, the daughter of Percy and Hannah (Thallander) Portchmouth.

She graduated from Croton Harmon High School and Eastern Secretarial School in New York City, NY.  She had worked for various advertising agencies and the Reader’s Digest of New York.

She was also a homemaker and enjoyed her family. She was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church, Clearfield.

Mrs. Anderson was a former member of the Clearfield Woman’s Club, the Clearfield Hospital Auxiliary, the Coterie Club, AARP and RSVP.

She is survived by four children, June Penta and her husband, Gerard of Greensburg, Sonia Shimko and her husband, John of Clearfield, William Anderson and his wife, Sandy of Allison Park and Richard Anderson and his wife, Paula of Rush, NY; seven grandchildren, William Anderson, Amy Wright, Jody Anderson, Robert Anderson, Christine Baylor, Kristen Shimko and Andrew Shimko; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Sonia Hurley of Black Mountain, NC; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Sweely of Mahaffey; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl L. Anderson, whom she married June 30, 1940 at Our Saviour Lutheran Church in Croton, NY and whom died Dec. 4, 1988; and a brother, William Portchmouth.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the St. John Lutheran Church, 217 E. Pine St., Clearfield, with Rev. Robert Way officiating. Burial will be in the Mahaffey Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 3 p.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc., Clearfield, and from 10 a.m. until the hour of the services Monday at the church.
