Joseph M. “Eagle” Murarik, 64, of Houtzdale died Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at Penn Highlands Hospital, Clearfield.

Born Aug. 2, 1949, he was the son of Andrew and Cecilia (Volk) Murarik. He served with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He was employed as a truck driver for Bull Dog Energy. He was a member of the Blackburn Hunting Camp.

On June 26, 1974, he married Cathy Yarger, who survives at home.

Surviving are two daughters, Lori Reifer and her husband, Kelly of Houtzdale and Jamie Irvin and her husband, Sean of Bellefonte, three grandchildren, Madison Collins, Austin Irvin, Alex Reifer and two step-grandchildren, Shane and Curtis Reifer.

Also surviving are three brothers, Andrew Murarik and his wife, Judy of Houtzdale, Martin Murarik and his wife, Rose of Chester Hill and Anthony Murarik and his wife, Cindy of Philipsburg and four sisters, Pauline Hampton of Houtzdale, Marion Davis of Allport, Cecilia Burns and her husband, James of Sandy Ridge and Agnes Emigh and her husband, Gerald of Morrisdale and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Elizabeth Ann Murarik; a father-in-law, Ivan Yarger, a step-father-in-law, Tom Hassinger; and two brothers-in-law, Joe Davis and Denver Hampton.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc. with Pastor Don Smith officiating.  Burial will follow in the Baughman Cemetery, Sanborn.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday.

Military honors will be accorded by the Houtzdale American Legion Freeberg Post No. 591 Honor Guard.
