Obituary Notice: Richard E. McLaughlin

Richard E. McLaughlin, 76, formerly of Olanta and currently of Hyde, died Monday, March 10, 2014 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.

He was born Nov. 27, 1937 in Lock Haven, the son of William E. and Ethel (Turner) McLaughlin. He had been employed as an equipment operator for PennDOT until retiring in 1992.

Mr. McLaughlin attended the Olanta Lutheran Church.

He was an avid hunter and Pittsburgh sports fan, rooting for the Pirates and Steelers.

He’s survived by his wife, Rose A. Smith of Hyde; a daughter, Vickie Redlinger, of Clearfield; a son, Vance McLaughlin and his wife, Debi of Mahaffey; a step-daughter, Tammy Menifee and her husband, Steven of Clearfield; five grandchildren, Carlea Patterson, Dickie Patterson, Brandi McLaughlin, Corissa McLaughlin and Ashley McLaughlin; three great-grandchildren, Austin, Shianne and Alessa; two sisters and a brother, Anna Mae Dixon and her companion, Bill Bollinger, Fred McLaughlin and his wife, Edna and Doreen Dixon, all of Clearfield; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, R. Vaughn McLaughlin; a step-son, Richard C. Smith Jr.; and three sisters, Mary Haney, Shirley Gray and Millie Spingola.

Honoring Mr. McLaughlin’s wishes, there will be no public viewing or visitation.

A Celebration of Life memorial service will be announced at a later date.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, VA 22312.
