HERSHEY — There will be no Cinderella Story for either of the Bison wrestlers at the PIAA AAA State Wrestling Championships as both went 0-2 on Thursday at the Giant Center to end their 2013-2014 seasons.
Senior 285 pounder Jake Verchick (28-10) saw his season, and career, come to an end as he was defeated 7-2 by Mt. Lebanon’s Zeynul Zaynullayez (34-4) and then by Harrisburg’s Andrew Brown (35-6) by a 15-2 score.
Verchick finished his career with an overall record of 47-44 with one District 4-9 title, a Northwest Region third place finish and one year of qualifying for the PIAA state championship.
Junior 126 pounder Noah Cline (28-11) was sent into the wrestlebacks after being pinned by Dallastown’s Rodney Sunday (33-3) in 3:47, and then was eliminated from the tournament by Souderton’s Kolton Veit (36-5), 5-1.
Cline will head into his senior year with a 65-40 career record with two district silver medals and a bronze to his credit.
Out of the 42 state qualifiers that the Northwest Region sent to Hershey, 14 are still in gold medal contention, while eight are still alive in the consolation round, and 20 have been eliminated.
