Lois J. Sankey Peters, 85, of Clearfield and formerly of Philipsburg, died Tuesday March 4, 2014 at the Clearfield Hospital.

She was the daughter of the Late John D. and Minnie A. (Davis) Carson, born June 11, 1928 in Philipsburg.  She married Richard W. “Dick” Peters on Dec. 15, 1979; he preceded her in death on Sept. 11, 2008.

Mrs. Peters was a member of the First Baptist Church in Philipsburg. She was also a member of the Christian Women of Philipsburg.

She was employed as an office assistant during her working career; first, she worked for the former Elliot Coal Company Inc. of Osceola Mills and then with Charles Navasky & Co. of Philipsburg until her retirement.  She was a graduate of the former Osceola Mills High School.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Alice Ellis; five brothers, Milford, Austin, Leslie, Melvin and Donnie Carson; and a step-grandson, Ronnie Heeman.

Mrs. Peters is survived by two daughters, Deborah Cowfer of Birmingham, Ala. and Mindy Little and her husband, Pat of Philipsburg; a step-daughter, Susan Heeman of State College; two sons, George Sankey and his wife, Rita of Osceola Mills and Jeffrey Sankey and his wife, Kathy of Buchanan, Mich.; and a sister, Agatha “Markey” Kennedy and her husband, Lester of (Frenchtown) Osceola Mills.  She’s also survived by nine grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, five step-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., in Philipsburg, with the Rev. Ted G. Seibert officiating.  Burial will be at the Umbria Cemetery in Osceola Mills.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Thursday at the Beezer-Heath Funeral Home.
