CLEARFIELD – A cooperative effort among the Bureau of Forestry, Old Town Sportsmen’s Club and the Susquehanna Chapter of the National wild Turkey Federation has resulted in an apple tree pruning workshop on March 13.
It will be held at the Old Town Sportsmen’s Club facilities on Mann Road, Clearfield. Plans are to begin at 10 a.m. and to last no later than 2 p.m.
Dr. Robert Crassweller of Penn State will provide the instruction, with the focus on pruning trees that have either been neglected or have not been pruned before. The restoration of both the tree’s productivity and the quality of its fruit is the goal of the pruning work. There will be demonstrations of the techniques, so participants need to dress for the weather conditions of the day.
The Old Town Sportsmen’s Club and the Susquehanna Chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation will be providing a lunch for the participants.
The size of the group will be limited, so pre-registering is required. Those interested in attending need to call the Moshannon State Forest District Office during normal working hours to sign up. The phone number to call is 814-765-0821.
