Mary Elizabeth (Goss) Catherine, 84, of Philipsburg died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
Born Feb. 14, 1930 at West Decatur, she was a daughter of the late Clyde C. and Margaret (Cunningham) Goss. She was a 1948 graduate of Philipsburg High School.
Her work history includes Morningstar Bakery, Catherine’s Market, original owner of Pike Drive Inn, owner of Passmore Hotel, manager at McDonald’s, Sheetz and tax collector for the Philipsburg Borough.
She was also a member of the Philipsburg BPO Elk Lodge No. 1173, NOP and borough council.
On July 14, 1951 in Philipsburg, she married Frank A. Catherine, who survives at home. She’s also survived by a son, Michael Catherine and his partner, Carla Kowalcyk of Philipsburg and a daughter, Lee Ann Sabella and her husband, Richard G. of Philipsburg.
She’s also survived by a brother, Clyde Goss of Harrisburg and four grandchildren, Tobi Catherine, Richard L. Sabella and Casey Lynn Sabella, all of Philipsburg, and Holly E. Sabella of Portage.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, John C. Goss and a sister, Goldie E. Mills.
A memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family, and there will be no public visitation. Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.
