Judge Revokes Burglary Suspects’ Probation
CLEARFIELD – Two men accused of breaking into a local elementary school were in Clearfield County Court to be sentenced on separate charges.
Allen Wayne Robison III, 30, and Samuel Dean Kovach, 25, both of 604 W. Front St., Clearfield, are charged with burglary, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, criminal conspiracy and criminal mischief in connection with a burglary at the Girard-Goshen Elementary School in September. They waved their rights to preliminary hearings Feb. 5 and remain in jail in lieu of $25,000 bail.
Woman Pleads Guilty to Smuggling Drugs into CCJ
CLEARFIELD – A Hawk Run woman has pleaded guilty to smuggling prescription drugs into the Clearfield County Jail and sharing them with other inmates.
Krista Wilkinson, 25, 590 Powell St., Hawk Run, an inmate of the jail, pleaded guilty to possession of a controlled substance-contraband/inmate. She was sentenced to nine months to two years less one day in jail and three years consecutive probation. It is a condition of her probation that she completes an inpatient program. She was fined $50 plus costs. She must complete drug/alcohol counseling and submit to DNA testing at a cost of $250.
NWS Issues Winter Weather Advisory
STATE COLLEGE – A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. tonight until 12 p.m. Tuesday in the northwest mountains.
The advisory is for hazardous types of snow with accumulations of four to six inches. A glaze of ice is also possible, according to the National Weather Service in State College.
Penn State Names Eric J. Barron President
UNIVERSITY PARK – The 18th president of Penn State has been named by the University’s Board of Trustees. Eric J. Barron, a former dean at Penn State and current leader of Florida State University, will begin as Penn State’s next president on May 12, 2014.
CLEARFIELD – A Curwensville couple arrested for selling heroin as part of “Operation Gobble Up” were sentenced in Clearfield County Court.
Brandon Marshall Timko, 26, and Lacey Rose Levesque, 24, both of 100 Fourth Ave., Curwensville, an inmate of the jail, pleaded guilty before Judge Fredric J. Ammerman. Timko pleaded guilty to delivery of a controlled substance-heroin, delivery of a controlled substance-cocaine, criminal conspiracy and criminal use of communication facility. He was sentenced to six months to two years in jail and two years consecutive probation. He was fined $251 plus costs.
Clearfield Revitalization Corp. to Host Game Show Mania
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Revitalization Corp., (CRC) has announced plans to host a Game Show Mania night on March 8.
The event will be held from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Elks in Clearfield. The goal of this event is to provide a fun-filled evening for guests while promoting the CRC’s new Partnership Program.
PennDOT Warns Motorists to Remain Alert for Blowing or Drifting Snow Squalls, Whiteout Conditions
CLEARFIELD – With wintry winds moving through the region, PennDOT is reminding drivers to slow down, pay attention and use caution on area roadways, especially during snow squalls that may occur today.
Motorists should always be alert for sudden snow squalls, which can strike with little or no warning and quickly cause roads to become snow-covered. Heavy squalls can also cause whiteout conditions, virtually eliminating a driver’s visibility.

LT Supers Open Bids for Phase III Sewage Project
CLEARFIELD – Last night, the Lawrence Township Supervisors opened bids first for building sewer internal TV inspection.
Two bids were received. C&R Directional Boring Inc. of Clearfield bid $24,966 and Glenn Johnston Inc. of McKeesport bid $65,208. Also, the bids for Phase III Sanitary Sewer System Improvements include:
WJAC-TV: Accident Shuts Down I-80 in Clearfield County
CLEARFIELD COUNTY – Forty tractor-trailers and 10 passenger cars are involved in an accident on Interstate 80 near the Woodland exit, according to Fire Chief Chad Baughman.
At this time, emergency crews are assessing passenger injuries. Officials at Clearfield Hospital reported that they are expecting three to four patients, and there isn’t any word on the severity of injuries.
Maternity Dept. to Close at Clearfield Hospital
CLEARFIELD – Clearfield Hospital, an affiliate of Penn Highlands Healthcare, announced today that it will close its maternity department, the Armstrong Birthing Center, effective April 7.
Beginning on that date, maternity patients of Clearfield’s only obstetrician, Thomas A. Carnevale, M.D., will deliver their babies at DuBois Regional Medical Center.
ARC Opens Warming Center due to I-80 Accident in Clearfield County
STATE COLLEGE – American Red Cross volunteers opened a Warming Center at 11 a.m. for those impacted by this morning’s multi-car accident caused by ice on Interstate 80 in Clearfield County.
The Warming Center is located at Gethsemane United Methodist Church, 369 Allport Cutoff, Morrisdale, PA 16858. The church is located off exit 133 on I-80.
Woman Accused of Stealing from CCSHDC Waives Hearing
CLEARFIELD – A woman accused of stealing more than $9,000 from the Clearfield County Society for Handicapped & Disabled Citizens waived her right to a preliminary hearing Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Julie M. Bain, 56, of Clearfield has been charged with 184 counts of theft by deception. Her bail has been set at $50,000 unsecured.
Woman Accused of Harassing Loggers Appears in Court
CLEARFIELD – A Morrisdale woman accused of harassing several men who were cutting timber in Cooper Township was recently in Clearfield County Court again.
Patricia J. Dunzik, 66, 102 Krasinski Farms Rd., Morrisdale, is charged with simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, resisting arrest, defiant trespass, hunt without securing license and harassment.
LT Supers Hire Full-time and Part-time Police Officers
CLEARFIELD – At Tuesday’s meeting, the Lawrence Township Supervisors approved to hire Ralph Nedza to the full-time position on the township’s police department.
Supervisor Chairman Bill Lawhead said the supervisors interviewed four of the part-time officers, and all the supervisors agreed that it was a very difficult decision, because all were excellent candidates.
Clearfield Boro Defeats Motion for Temporary Exemption of Snow Removal Ordinance
CLEARFIELD – At last night’s Clearfield Borough Meeting, James Kling, Planning and Community Development Committee chairperson, proposed a temporary exemption of the snow removal ordinance for the balance of the 2013-14 snow season.
