District 4-9 AAA Wrestling Pairings Released; Bison Garner Two Top Seeds

The Bisons are sending four to the PIAA State Championships.

CLARION — The pairings for the Districts 4 and 9 AAA Wrestling Championships were released on Tuesday morning. There was no seedings meeting, as in year’s past, as a computerized points system was used for the nine participating teams, five of which are from PIAA District 9 and four of which are from PIAA District 4.

The Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium on the campus of Clarion Umiversity will once again host the annual event along with the AA Championships.

The Clearfield Bison garnered two number one seeds – sophomore Logan Gilbert (17-14) at 113 and senior Jake Verchick (21-7) at 285.

The other number one seeds are: 106 – Hunter Zondory (26-6), Jersey Shore; 120 – Roshaun Cooley (13-0), Williamsport; 126 – Shae Bloom (26-4), DuBois; 132 – Joel Bowers (23-1), Punxsutawney; 138 – Kaleb Young (25-0), Punxsutawney; 145 – Tyler Yetzer (20-8), St. Marys; 152 – Perry Arrington (22-7), Punxsutawney; 160 – William Gabor (20-7), St. Marys; 170 – Josh Cameroni (22-7), St. Marys; 182 – Dominic Loffredo (23-6), Jersey Shore; 195 – Tom Sleigh (27-0), DuBois; 220 – Dwayne Pepper (16-3), Shikellamy.

The top four finishers will advance to the Northwest Region at the Altoona Area High School Field House on February 28 and March 1.

If they were to match, or improve upon, their seeds the two top-seeded Bison would be joined in Altoona by five of their teammates.

126 pound junior Noah Cline (20-7) and sophomore 182 pounder Travis Ogden (24-10) are seeded second; while a trio of Bison sophomores earned number four seeds – Josiah McClarren (17-13) at 120, Logan Puit (7-18) at 132, and Tallin Norris (8-13) at 138.

Two more Bison sophomores, Thayne Morgan (9-16) at 106 and Nate Lash (12-10) at 220 are seeded fifth. Senior Tristan Carruthers (12-18) is seeed sixth. Rounding out the Bison line-up for the post season are number eight seeds Jaret McCracken (4-8) at 145, Grant Climie (3-18) at 152, and Logan Lykens (5-18) at 182.

Wrestling will get under way Friday night at 6:30 pm with a short preliminary round and then the quarterfinals. On Saturday, AAA action will begin at 11:30 am with the semifinals and the beginning of the consolation rounds. At 5:00 pm will be the consolation finals with the Parade of Champions commencing at 6:30. The championships matches will run concurrently with the AA finals at 7:00.
