ALLPORT – The West Branch boys basketball team outscored the Curwensville Golden Tide, 13-6, in overtime to gain a 76-69 win and a share of the Moshannon Valley League (MVL) title.
The Wednesday victory on the Warriors home floor ties them with the Tide for the best record in the MVL at 6-2. Glendale can make it a threesome for the league championship should they beat Harmony Thursday night on the Owls’ court.
West Branch led at the half 27-24,with the Golden Tide knotting it at 44-44 after three quarters and then sending the game to the extra frame after a 63-63 regulation.
Brett Gardner, with four three-pointers, paced the Tide offense with 25 points, while Tanner Elensky with 14 and Kyle Johns chipping in with 10 helped out Gardner.
Mike Pennington had a monster game for the Warriors with a game high 30 points, which included three treys.
Austin Krise had 23 points and Kody Trude netted 12 to help the West Branch cause.
The Warriors, 14-7 on the season, travel to Philipsburg-Osceola, 0-19, Friday night to play the Mounties. Varsity action will start at 7 pm as there will be no junior varsity contest.
Curwensville did win the JV game, 49-42, as Jake Terry had 17 for the Golden Tide.
The Tide (13-8) close out the regular season at home Friday evening against rival Clearfield (6-15) The junior varsity game tips off at 6 pm and the varsity will immediately follow.
Curwensville defeated the Bison, 56-38 on December 9, on the Bison home court.
