DUBOIS – The federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has approved a permit to allow construction of an underground disposal injection well in Brady Township, Clearfield County. State Rep. Matt Gabler (R-Clearfield/Elk) issued the following statement in reaction to the EPA decision:

“I am outraged that the EPA would make this reckless decision and display such blatant disregard for the citizens of our area and their quality of life. For the EPA to say it looks only ‘below the ground,’ thus ignoring the people who live above it, is just plain wrong.

“This is simply another example of the never-ending assault on western Pennsylvania by the Obama administration and Washington bureaucrats. One day they are costing us jobs by closing down Pennsylvania energy producers through over-regulation. Today, they are harming our community by simply ignoring common sense.

“I have worked hard since this disastrous injection well proposal came to light by authoring legislation that would allow Pennsylvania’s Department of Environmental Protection to disapprove injection wells, such as the one in Brady Township that will negatively impact our neighbors’ quality of life.

“I am furious the EPA has approved this permit before my legislation could be acted upon. I will continue to fight and do everything in my power to protect the citizens of the 75th District from irresponsible decisions like the one that was made.”
