KANE — The Curwensville Area High School girls basketball team knew an Allegheny Mountain League playoff berth was out of the picture, but the Lady Tide had plenty of motivation for Friday night’s cross-over game.
Revenge for a 49-38 home-court loss to Kane on December 20 and the opportunity to pick up points for District 9 Class AA Playoffs seedings had coach Rusty McCracken’s Lady Tide aroused in the first half as they charged to a 26-17 lead.
However, two different teams came out of intermission as the Lady Wolves outscored the Lady Tide 17-2 in the third quarter and went on to repeat their previous 11-point victory, 47-36.
Ciara Strickland beat Kane’s box-and-one defense for a game-high 17 points, including three three-pointers, in the first two periods but was held scoreless in the final 16 minutes when Curwensville totaled only 10 points.
The loss snapped a four-game winning streak by the Lady Tide and dropped them to 13-7 with a 5-5 finish in the AML South Division.
Taylor Morgan tallied 14 points and Camryn Cummings had 13 to pace Kane, which is 11-10 with a 7-2 log in the AML North Division.
In the junior varsity game, Kane eked out a 45-43 win when a last-second three-pointer didn’t fall for Curwensville. Christine Limbert scored 12 points for the Lady Tide.
Curwensville will travel down river to take on Clearfield Monday before closing the regular season with an important Moshannon Valley League home make-up game against West Branch Wednesday.
