Campus Corner: Barger’s Winning Streak at Eight Matches

WILLIAMSPORT – Freshman 157-pounder Nolan Barger (Clearfield) reached double figures in dual meet victories and extended his winning streak to eight matches as Lycoming clinched its 27th winning season in the last 28 years with road routs of Alfred (N.Y.) State 44-0 Thursday and King’s 27-12 at Wilkes-Barre Sunday.

Barger (23-10) pinned Alfred State’s Codie Nichols at 6:04 and rolled up an 18-2 technical fall in 6:58 against King’s Matthew Lukachinsky.

Barger is tied for second in bonus wins for the Warriors (11-7) with four falls, three technical falls and three major decisions.

WOMEN’S SWIMMING

PITTSBURGH – Freshman Krystal Wriglesworth (Clearfield) swam the third leg for the California ‘A’ 200-meter freestyle team that was victorious against three of the four opponents in the Western Pennsylvania Invitational hosted by Pitt at Trees Pool Saturday afternoon.

Wriglesworth turned in a 29.34-second split as the Vulcans posted a 1:40.46 to finish behind two Pitt foursomes.

She also had a 29.17 backstroke split for the Vulcan ‘B’ 200 medley relay quartet that finished in 1:54.16.

California defeated Clarion 163-109 and Grove City 167-70 while losing to Carnegie Mellon 189.50-101.50 and Pitt 246-45 to close the dual meet season with an 8-5 record.

WOMEN’S INDOOR TRACK & FIELD

GENEVA, Ohio – Freshman sprinter/jumper Jessica Shomo (Clearfield) was one of nine Clarion thinclads to record a top 20 finish at the SPIRE Midwest Open Saturday.

Shomo triple jumped 32 feet, 6¼ inches (9.91 meters) to place 18th among 25 entries.

She also placed 24th among 47 entries in the long jump with a leap of 15-11 (4.85m) and 28th among 43 starters in the 60-meter dash with a personal-record time of 8.41 seconds.

UNIVERSITY PARK — Penn State senior Gwenn Porter (Clearfield) ran a 5:24.61 mile on the Horace Ashenfelter III Track at the Multi-Sports Facility in the Penn State National Saturday.
