Golden Tide Long Road Trip A Success, Dump Sheffield, 59-41

SHEFFIELD – The Curwensville Area High School boys basketball team picked up its ninth win of the year Tuesday night, with a 59-41 win on the road at Sheffield.

Curwensville is now 9-7 and with the victory the Golden Tide qualify for the District 9 AA playoffs that begin later this month.

The Golden Tide quickly jumped on the Wolverines 12-5 after the first quarter and 32-19 at intermission.

Curwensville, which never lost a quarter, outscored Sheffield in the second 16 minutes, 27-22, to make the long journey home an enjoyable one with the convincing victory.

Tanner Elensky led the Tide offense scoring 15 points, while freshman Jake Terry with 11 and Austin Jacobson tallying 10 also helped  the Curwensville attack.

Curwensville Head Coach Shane Pentz said briefly afterwards, “It was pretty nice to see Terry (Jake), a freshman, score 11 for us and Austin Jacobson have a big game with 10.  Others like that getting involved really helps pick up a team.”

The Wolverines had Adam Higby with 12 and Nick Confer adding 10 in a losing cause.

The game started at 5 pm due to the impending winter storm and the two schools agreed that there would be no junior varsity game so that the Tide could get an early start on the long trip back home.

The Tide, weather permitting, will play the second of four games this week, a busy one for sure, Wednesday night, at home against St. Joe’s Academy of Boalsburg.  Tip-off for junior varsity action is 6 pm.  The varsity game will follow 15 minutes after the conclusion of the JV contest.
