ST. MARYS – One person is dead after an explosion that occurred today at Mersen USA on Trout Run Road in St. Marys, reported GantDaily.com news partner WJAC-TV.
Elk County emergency dispatch said an explosion was reported at approximately 9 a.m. at the Mersen USA plant. In a statement, General Manager Noah Nichelson said one employee was killed and two were injured following “an equipment-related accident.”
Nichelson said one of the employees was hospitalized with serious injuries and the other was expected to recover. The company, he said, “will continue to cooperate with the appropriate officials with immediate focus on the three employees and their families who have been impacted by this accident, as well as supporting the rest of our workforce.”
The names of the employees have not been released at this time. It was not immediately known what caused the accident.
