WINGATE — Stinging from three losses in a row, Bald Eagle Area exploded out of the chute with 27 points in the first period and went on to race past Clearfield 73-53 in Mountain League schoolboy basketball action Wednesday night.
The Eagles, who had four starters hit for double figures, forged a 41-19 halftime lead en route to their third win over the Bison, including one at the Purchase Line Holiday Tournament.
Pacing the Eagles (12-4, 7-3 ML) was Brandon Gettig with three of their six 3-pointers in a 15-point effort. Bryan Greene netted 12 points while Bryce Greene and Trey Butterworth added 11 apiece.
For Clearfield (4-12, 3-7), Erik Sellers matched Gettig for game-high honors with 15 points, and Will Myers and Cody Spaid checked in with 11 apiece.
Clearfield’s junior varsity, led by Ryan Lezzer’s 24 points, rolled to a 53-37 victory in the prelim.
The Bison will play the first game in their new gymnasium Friday when they seek to sweep Bellefonte. They eked out a 52-51 win over the Raiders on December 20.
They’ll be at home again Monday for a twice-postponed game with Brookville, which originally was scheduled to host the non-league contest.
