Tyrone Hospital Offering Free EKG Course

TYRONE – The Tyrone Hospital Education Department is offering a free 12-Lead EKG Course.

EKG is technology that generates a picture of the electrical conduction of the human heart.  Examination of the information generated by EKG allows healthcare providers to identify a variety of heart issues.

The course is open to healthcare providers including nurses, paramedics and other emergency care providers.

The course will be presented by Tom Smith, RN/PHRN, director of education at Tyrone Hospital.

Course attendees will learn proper EKG lead placement, how to interpret EKG reports, how to distinguish normal from abnormal heart activity and how to develop a plan of care for patients based on EKG findings.

Previous training or experience with 12 Lead EKG is not necessary.  Continuing Medical Education Units awarded for the class include EMS CE of 5 ALS Hours and 5.5 CME Hours for other healthcare providers.

The 12-Lead EKG course will be held in the classroom at Tyrone Hospital on Feb. 25 from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. To register, contact Tom Smith via e-mail at tsmith@tyronehospital.org or by calling 814-684-1255 ext 1625.
