Golden Tide Win Big in Brockway, 51-41

BROCKWAY –  The Curwensville boys basketball team swept the two game season series over Brockway Friday night beating the Rovers on their home court, 51-41.

Earlier this season the Golden Tide defeated the Rovers in Curwensville, 54-51.

The Tide led by just two at the intermission, 23-21, but used a big third period by outscoring their hosts 14-8 to take an eight point margin into the fourth period.

Tide Head Coach Shane Pentz commented afterwards, “Big win for the team tonight.  We talked about playing more together and I think that showed tonight.  Brockway is a tough place to play and they have a number of guys that can shoot the ball.  I’m really happy for the team, they deserved to win this game with the effort they gave.”

Pentz also talked about his team’s defensive effort, “Best defensive effort of the season. If we can play with that energy and intensity, we can win a lot of games the rest of the season.  Probably the best defense we have played all year.  I just can’t say enough about the effort defensively tonight.  We worked on a few things in practice the last few days and the boys took that to the game tonight.”

Curwensville’s Brett Gardner lead all scorers with a game high of 16 points and Tanner Elensky dumped in 15 to boost the Tide offense.

Talking about efforts by different players Pentz stated, “Tanner (Elensky) was having success beating the press with the dribble and getting to the basket.  Brett (Gardner) led us in scoring again and Austin Jacobson had eight points and nine rebounds.  Kyle Johns gave us a big presence inside and outside and rebounded well. Alex Olson had another great all around game.  Trey Rauckhorst had a big game on the glass and altered many shots, especially early in the game. Jake Terry ht a big three and Nate Kurtz and Alex Hill provided bench help by rebounding, playing sound defense and taking care of the ball.”

Brockway was paced on offense by Andrew Serafini with 15 points and Cody Jose with 11.

Next up for the Tide (7-5) will be a Monday road trip to DuBois to play the Cardinals of DuBois Central Catholic, a team the Tide beat on January 3 at Curwensville, 63-55.
