Philipsburg Man Facing Charges after Fleeing/Eluding Incident

PHILIPSBURG – A Philipsburg man is facing charges for fleeing and eluding state police on Friday in Philipsburg Borough.

According to the state police at Philipsburg, a traffic stop was initiated on a vehicle driven by Joseph W. Oswalt, 21, of Philipsburg on North Front Street in the area of Presqueisle Street. Oswalt had committed several summary traffic violations.

Oswalt failed to stop and proceeded through a red light. He drove erratically on South Front Street. When at the intersection with East Maple Street, he failed to negotiate a left-hand turn and exited the roadway. Oswalt subsequently struck a traffic sign.

Oswalt and his two passengers who were both juveniles exited the vehicle and fled the scene on foot. They were located a short time later and taken into custody, state police said, adding there was an outstanding arrest warrant out against Oswalt.
