TYRONE – The Women’s Club of Tyrone was a major contributor helping with the purchase of the new breast imaging technology that is now available at Tyrone Hospital.
In the last couple of years, the Women’s Club donated more than $33,000 to the Tyrone Hospital Foundation with funds directed to Tyrone Hospital’s Breast Cancer & Women’s Health Institute. It’s to help with the purchase of new breast imaging technology, which includes new digital mammography technology and new portable breast ultrasound technology.
The funds donated were raised by the Women’s Club via their annual 200 Club Raffle Event and Silent Auction. The Women’s Club holds the annual event specifically to benefit Tyrone Hospital.
Digital mammography technology offers incredibly sharp breast images. Images can be magnified and contrast can be increased or decreased while reading the images. These features make it easier for physicians to evaluate microcalcifications and focus on areas of concern in the breast.
Breast ultrasound is an imaging technology used by physicians to take a closer look at questionable areas of the breast and/or to create images that serve as visual guidance to perform certain breast procedures for example, cyst aspirations, and to help plan breast surgery. The portable unit is compact and can be moved among exam rooms and moved into the operating room for use during surgery.
The Women’s Club of Tyrone has been supporting Tyrone Hospital’s improvement projects and/or capital equipment purchases for more than 47 years.
