CURWENSVILLE – With four pins and four forfeits the Redbank Valley High School wrestling team steamrolled Curwensville on the Golden Tide home mat Thursday evening, 62-8.
The loss leaves the Tide with an 0-3 mark on the year while the Bulldogs evened their record at 1-1.
And before anyone could say hello to the person sitting next to them, Redbank Valley raced out in front 41-0 after only twenty minutes of battle.
The Tide picked up the team’s first points at 126 pounds when Sam Bressler took down Bulldog Kolbin Altobelli at the start of overtime for an exciting 5-3 win.
Bressler scored three points in the middle period with an escape and takedown. Altobelli did the same in the third which sent the match, 3-3, to overtime.
After that, the Bulldogs scored another 21 unanswered team points for a 62-2 bulge before Tide Jake C. Stiles, at 170, sent the home team fans on their way out of Patton Hall happy with a pin in 3:06 over Devin Schimp. Stiles had a 7-0 lead before ending the night early for Schimp.
Curwensville was deducted a team point after the 160 pound bout for unsportsmanlike conduct.
The best action of the night was the junior high match, with Curwensville pulling out a thrilling 51-50 victory over the young Bulldogs.
Curwensville is back in action on Tuesday night, traveling to Flinton, to wrestle the Vikings of Glendale. Junior high wrestling begins at 6 pm and the varsity will immediately follow.
