PUNXSUTAWNEY — The Clearfield Area High School boys basketball team ran into a hot-shooting Punxsutawney squad and was handed a 70-38 loss in a non-league game between District 9 Class AAA rivals Friday night.
A trio of seniors shouldered the scoring load for the Chucks, whose 27 field goals included nine three-pointers.
Tyler Young tallied a game-high 19 points with four trifectas, Brandon Mancuso netted 16 points with three bonus buckets and Cory Geer added 15 markers.
Young and Mancuso combined for five three-pointers and 19 points as Punxsy (5-4) bolted to a 23-6 lead in the first quarter, and the hosts widened that to 42-20 at intermission with Geer pumping in 13 points in the second period.
Christian Lezzer was high for Clearfield (2-6) with 10 points. Erik Sellers chipped in with nine.
The Chuck jayvees also prevailed, 36-32. Cody Spaid topped the Bison with 10 points.
Clearfield returns to Mountain League action Monday with a home game against Tyrone and then goes to Brookville Tuesday for another non-league game.
