Milton George Coble, 83 of Clearfield died peacefully on Friday, Dec. 27, 2013 surrounded by his wife and loving family at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

He was born on April 10, 1930 in Spangler, a son of the late John Milton and Nannie Carrie (Snedden) Coble.

After graduation from Cooper High School, he joined the U.S. Navy and served as purchasing officer for six years. Early in his career, he worked as a purchasing agent and then progressed to hotel and restaurant management. He worked as the manager and proprietor of The Bell Restaurant in Kylertown for 10 years and was the general manager at the Clearfield Best Western for 15 years, retiring in 1995.

He was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield, where he served on the board of trustees. He was also a member of the Clearfield Lodge No. 314 Free and Accepted Masons, the Clearfield American Legion John Lewis Shade Post No. 6, the Clearfield Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks Lodge No. 540 and the Jaffa Shrine, Altoona.

After retiring, he began playing golf, a sport he loved to play with his close friends. In his early years, he enjoyed hunting deer along with many outdoor activities. He was an active member of the Silver Sneakers Club at the Clearfield YMCA. He was a Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State football fan and spent time watching professional golf.

He’s survived by his wife, Joan C. (Shomo) Coble, whom he married on Nov. 25, 1961 at the Shawville Methodist Church and enjoyed 52 wonderful years of marriage together.

He’s the father of two daughters, Brenda (Coble) Boron and her husband, John Robert Boron of Pittsburgh and Annette (Coble) Weikel and her husband, Todd Nelson Weikel of Camp Hill; four granddaughters, Madison Nicole and Olivia Laura Boron and Emma Joan and Laura Ann Weikel; a sister, Nancy (Coble) Laich and her husband. Herbert of Forest; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Sidney Coble and a sister, Effie (Coble) Myers.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Trinity United Methodist Church, Clearfield, with Dr. C. Fred Ralston and Msgr. Henry L. Krebs officiating. Burial will follow be in the Allport Cemetery, Allport.

Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday at the Kevin A Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield, and from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Tuesday at the church.
