Obituary Notice: Robert Ferguson

Robert Ferguson, 84, of Morrisdale died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013 at UPMC Altoona. Born Sept. 4, 1929, he was the son of the late Blake and Jane Weaver Ferguson.

Mr. Ferguson was of the Methodist faith. He was a 1949 graduate of the Morris Township High School. He was a member of the Mosquito Creek Sportsmen’s Club, Frenchville.

He was an avid outdoorsman and loved to fish and hunt. He was a real American picker. He was a member of the F&AM Lodge No. 785, Niagara Falls, NY.

Mr. Ferguson was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War as a corporal. Earlier in life, he worked as a woodsman and then at Bell Aerospace, Niagara Falls, NY as an electrical technician until his retirement. Mr. Ferguson personally worked with some of the greatest military and scientific minds of the 20th century and helped build some of the best aircrafts in the U.S. Aero Fleet.

He married Cleora Smith Ferguson on July 14, 1956 at the First Church of Christ, Philipsburg. She survives in Morrisdale.

He’s survived by three daughters, Susan J. Langenbacher of Altoona, Carol A. Rowles and her husband, Gregory of Clearfield and Julie L. Commons and her husband, David A. of Hastings and one son, Darin R. Ferguson of Morrisdale.

He’s survived by two sisters, Viola Hubler of Philipsburg and Orabell Dunkle and her husband, James of Morrisdale; a brother, James Ferguson of Clearfield; and a sister-in-law, Gertrude Ferguson of Morrisdale.

He’s also survived by five grandchildren, Joshua Langenbacher and his wife, Shasta, Zachery Langenbacher, Kristie King and her husband, Eric, Kimberly Callahan and her husband, Daniel, D. Matthew Commons and his wife, Megan; one goddaughter, Lacey King; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Ferguson was preceded in death by two brothers, infants, William and John Ferguson; a son-in-law, James Langenbacher; and a sister-in-law, Sally Ferguson.

A funeral service will be held at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel of the Strange & Weaver Funeral Home, Morrisdale, with the Rev. Timothy Richmond officiating. Burial will be in the Philipsburg Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday and from 11:30 a.m. until the hour of services Tuesday at the funeral home.

Military honors will be accorded at the funeral home by the Philipsburg Independent Honor Guard.
