IRVONA – The Clearfield-based state police have initiated an investigation into a burglary that occurred at approximately 8:16 p.m. Monday at the Dollar General Store in Irvona.
During the incident, a male suspect entered the store and poked a customer who was checking out with an apparent handgun inside of a bag. The suspect, state police said, ordered the customer to get moving.
At that point, the customer and the cashier fled the front of the store. They went to the rear of the store to hide in a restroom. The suspect attempted to open the cash register by pressing buttons on the control panel, state police said.
When he failed to open it, the suspect ripped the cash register from the counter and fled with it. The suspect, state police said, was approximately 6 feet tall and 200 pounds; he was last seen wearing a tan coat, dark pants, boots and a ski mask.
