CLEARFIELD — The Clearfield County Career & Technology Center DECA chapter hosted a Wii Bowling Tournament to benefit the National Down’s Syndrome Society on Nov. 26-27.
A total of nine students and two instructors competed in the contest: Jessica Best, Clearfield; Jared Buck, Clearfield; Mr. Confer, CCCTC; Nick McGary, Clearfield; Jeremy Kephart, Clearfield; Tommy Morris, Harmony; Morgan Reffett, Clearfield; Mr. Rumfola, CCCTC; Cody Taylor, Clearfild; Andrew Waugh, Curwensville; and Jared Williams, Clearfield.
Students donated $5 to enter the contest and competed in a Wii Bowling Tournament to crown the CCCTC Wii Bowling Champion. Students who wanted to watch the tournament donated $1. The AM winners were Nick McGary, first place; Andrew Waugh, second place; and Cody Taylor, third place.
The PM title went to Mr. Confer with Jared Buck coming in second and Jeremy Kephart taking third place. The CCCTC School Store donated items from the store to be sold during the tournament to raise additional funds.
The students at CCCTC raised a total of $200 for the National Down’s Syndrome Society during the event. “We had some issues with the weather,” said Chris Young Jr., an officer with CCCTC DECA, who planned the event along with Elizabeth Dunsmore and Jesse Kruis.
“We had an early dismissal on Tuesday, so the AM held their tournament Tuesday morning and PM had theirs Wednesday afternoon. Between the weather and early dismissals on Wednesday, it was a little complicated; however, the DECA members really stepped up and made it a successful event.”
CCCTC DECA would like to thank the many area businesses who donated prizes to help make the event a success: Dairy Queen, Dominos, Dutch Pantry, Fun Central, Sid’s Super Submarines, Sheetz and Subway.
DECA is a student organization for emerging leaders and entrepreneurs. All students in the Business Management and Marketing program and Medical Office Assistant program at the CCCTC are members of DECA.
