STATE COLLEGE – The National Weather Service in State College has issued a Winter Storm Warning for heavy snow. It’s in effect from 5 a.m. Saturday until 4 a.m. Sunday. The Winter Storm Watch isn’t any longer in effect.
According to the NWS, the Winter Storm Warning is for all of central Pennsylvania and the Susquehanna Valley. Heavy snow is expected with it possibly changing to sleet or freezing rain Saturday night across the lower Susquehanna Valley.
The NWS expects accumulations of five to eight inches of snow. Snow fall will begin across the region around sunrise Saturday; it will intensify during the afternoon and evening hours.
The winter storm will result in widespread hazardous travel with snow-covered roadways and reduced visibility. Visibility will be one to two miles Saturday morning; however, it will be less than one mile during the afternoon and night hours, stated the NWS.
The NWS urges precautionary and preparedness actions due to the expected dangerous winter weather conditions, especially if planning to travel. For the latest weather information, you can visit weather.gov/ctp or tune into NOAA Weather Radio.
