Man Pleads Guilty in Drug Case

CLEARFIELD – A Smoke Run man pleaded guilty to possessing drugs recently during plea colloquy court with sentencing in Clearfield County.

Nathan Allen Campbell, 27, 5225 Crossroads Blvd., Smoke Run, pleaded guilty to two counts of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, driving under the influence and one summary. He was sentenced to six months to one year in jail and two years consecutive probation. He was fined $535 plus costs.

The charges stem from an incident in Gulich Township on June 9. According to the affidavit of probable cause, an officer on patrol spotted a vehicle traveling south on state Route 453 partially in the northbound lane coming straight toward his patrol unit. Prior to the possible collision, the vehicle returned to the proper lane. The officer turned his vehicle around and initiated a traffic stop.

When the officer approached the vehicle, he saw the driver, Campbell, was using his cell phone. Campbell had to be asked a second time before he gave the officer his license and registration. He seemed confused and responded to the officer’s requests very slowly. As Campbell exited the vehicle, the officer could smell an odor of marijuana. Campbell then failed a field sobriety test.

Campbell admitted to the officer that he had taken prescription medication and later he confessed he had also taken some medication that was not prescribed to him.

While talking with a passenger in the vehicle, the officer noticed marijuana and cash lying on the floor. The officers asked Campbell if they could search the vehicle and he agreed.

The officers found two, separately packaged baggies of marijuana and several bottles of pills. Both people in the vehicle stated they had come from the Ramey area where Campbell had been selling marijuana and the cash in the car was his profit. Campbell was taken to the Clearfield Hospital for a blood test.

The test revealed he was under the influence of alprazolam and clonazepam. Among the pills found were 24 clonazepam tablets and 47 oxycodone pills.
