LOCK HAVEN – Lock Haven University welcomes Dr. Scott Carnicom as founding dean of the College of Natural, Behavioral, and Health Sciences.

Carnicom is a professor of psychology and serves as an assistant to the provost at Middle Tennessee State University in Murfreesboro, Tenn.  He began as the associate dean of the honors college at Middle Tennessee State University (MTSU) and has remained active in the National Collegiate Honors Council, serving on several committees and editorial boards. Carnicom’s recent scholarship has focused on honors pedagogy and liberal arts education.

Since 2008, he has completed three fellowships in higher education leadership at Harvard, Vanderbilt and a year-in-residence at Kenyon College in Gambier, Ohio (American Council on Education emerging leaders program).  Before joining MTSU, Carnicom was an associate professor of psychology and founding director of the honors program at Marymount University in Arlington, VA.  Carnicom earned his Doctorate degree in biopsychology at Stony Brook University, where his work focused on the neural basis of motor control.  He earned his Bachelor’s degree in psychology (summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa) from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

Carnicom is a native of Ashland, Ohio and will be joined in the Lock Haven community by his wife of 17 years, Marla and 6-year-old son, Harry.

“As the newest member of the Lock Haven community, I am humbled and honored to serve as dean of the college, and look forward to building on such a strong foundation of academic excellence and student success,” said Carnicom.

“The sciences, coupled with the arts, humanities and other fields of study, are crucial to the future of higher education and our world.  I am so pleased to join an institution that clearly holds these same values and am very grateful for the hard work of Dr. Jonathan Lindzey and the entire faculty and staff who have deftly guided our nascent college through its formation,” Carnicom added.
