Francis “Frank” E. Stumpf, 66, of Davidsville, and formerly of Houtzdale, died Sunday, Nov. 24, 2013 at The Select Specialty Hospital in Johnstown.

He was the son of the late Joseph C. and Theresa (Rice) Stumpf born Dec. 4, 1946 in Natrona Heights.  On June 13, 1970, he married Elizabeth “Liz” (Cowher) Stumpf at the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Philipsburg. She survives at home.

He was a very active member of Christ the King Parish in Houtzdale, where he had served with the church’s senior choir, funeral choir and numerous other activities.  He was a Third Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Our Lady of the Valley Council, No. 10376, Houtzdale, PA. He was a Fourth Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus, Pope John Paul II Assembly No. 952 in Clearfield.

He was a member of the Houtzdale Lions Club and their Showboat Minstrel Program.  He had volunteered for many years as an adult with the various Boy Scouts of America units in the Houtzdale/Moshannon Valley area.

He was employed for 34 years as an industrial arts teacher for the Moshannon Valley High School in (Amesville) Houtzdale until his retirement in 2003.  During his tenure at Moshannon Valley, he had coached in the elementary and high school boys basketball programs.  He had also served as a PIAA basketball referee.

He was a 1964 graduate of Knoch High School in Saxonburg.  He received his Bachelor of Science in education in 1968 from California University of Pennsylvania.  He also attended The Pennsylvania State University in University Park.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Stumpf is survived by two sons, Christian J. Stumpf and his wife, Michelle of Davidsville and Matthew R. Stumpf and his wife, Heather of Holden, LA and a sister, Theresa “Tess” Kaufman and her husband, Paul of Murrells Inlet, SC.

He’s survived by two brothers, Joseph Stumpf and his wife, Rose of Herman and William Stumpf and his wife, Mary Ellen of Titusville.  He’s also survived by four grandsons, Tyler, Scott, Cameron and Paul Stumpf; a brother-in-law, Paul Cowher and his wife, Carol of Osceola Mills; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Christ the King Catholic Church in Houtzdale, with the Rev. Michael J. Stumpf and the Rev. Stanley J. Swacha, co-celebrants.  Burial will be at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Cemetery in Osceola Mills.

Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the Heath Funeral Home, 701 Lingle St., Osceola Mills.
