DUBOIS – The Glenn and Ruth Mengle Foundation has demonstrated significant support for Penn State DuBois by recently providing the campus with a grant for $59,050. The grant will be used to upgrade video learning technology on the campus, as well as to support scholarship funds.
Penn State DuBois utilizes video learning technology, or the Video Learning Network (VLN) for a variety of programs and courses in order to serve students at multiple locations. Faculty teaching in a VLN classroom use computer touch screens to see and talk with students at multiple locations in real time. Dual cameras enable students to see the instructor and educational materials simultaneously. Students also have push-to-talk microphones for communicating with the instructor and other students.
“In today’s learning environments, technology plays an enormous and ever increasing role,” said Penn State DuBois Chancellor Melanie Hatch. “This technology allows us to reach students who may not be able to access the education they seek through traditional means. For some, it can make all the difference; it can be the one thing that makes a life-changing education possible.
Scholarships can be equally important for many students, and can also be the one thing that makes getting an education possible. The Mengle Foundation recognizes all of this, and has chosen to support technology and scholarships alike. We are very thankful for their generous support.”
The Glenn and Ruth Mengle Foundation was established in 1960 by Glenn Mengle, then president and CEO of Brockway Glass, with his wife, Ruth. The foundation supports charitable, religious, scientific, literary or educational activities. In addition to this grant, the Glenn and Ruth Mengle Foundation has offered decades of support to Penn State DuBois through scholarship contributions
