Detour will be lifted when bridge opens
STATE COLLEGE – Work to replace a bridge on Route 2012 (Penns Creek Road) will near its completion when the bridge re-opens to traffic on Thursday.
Crews have been working since May 1 to replace the bridge. When the bridge re-opens, the state Department of Transportation will remove it from the list of structurally deficient bridges in Centre County.
Once traffic begins using the new bridge, PennDOT will lift the detour that’s been in place since the project began. The detour made use of Beaver Dam Road (Township Road 449). The bridge spans Penns Creek about three miles southwest of the village of Coburn and sees an average of 250 vehicles each day.
Work has included replacement of the old bridge with a new concrete box beam bridge, approach work, paving, guide rail updates, and miscellaneous items. Nestlerode Contracting of Lock Haven has been the contractor for this $1 million job.
Drivers are reminded to obey posted speed limits and always buckle up.
