Hilda Mabel Condo, 87, a resident of the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home and formerly of Sandy Ridge, died Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013 at the Hollidaysburg Veterans Home.

Born Jan. 1, 1926 in Bellefonte, she was a daughter of the late John E. and Bessie (McClain) Halderman. On May 25, 1944 in Mountain View, NJ, she wed Samuel F. Condo Sr., whom died May 23, 2009.

She’s survived by a daughter, Donna Dunn and her husband, James of Doylestown; two sons, Samuel F. Condo Jr. and his wife, Grace of Port Matilda and Richard Condo of Wilson, NC; and a daughter-in-law, Patty Condo of State College.

She’s survived by two sisters, Alice McCaslin of Bellefonte and Judy Laird and her husband, Jack of State College; eight grandchildren, Patricia Zook, Theresa Bryan, James Dunn Jr., Jennifer McGrory, Timothy Dunn, Samuel Condo III, Adam Condo and Erin McCracken; and 15 great-grandchildren.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, John E. “Sonny” Halderman Jr. and a sister, Bessie I. Evans.

She was a 1943 graduate of the Bellefonte High School. She was of the Protestant faith. She had worked at Silco, Linden Labs, C-Cor, Sylvania, Hanover Cannery and was co-owner of Sam’s Place in Sandy Ridge.

She was a member of the Coachmen Camping Club, the Philipsburg Mountaineers, Good Sams, the Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and the Auxiliary of Mountain Top Fire Company, Sandy Ridge. She enjoyed RVing, going to flea markets and yard sales, crosswords and sudoku puzzles.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at the David K. Dahlgren Funeral Home, 228 N. Centre St., Philipsburg, with the Rev. Mark Thumma officiating. Burial will follow at the Philipsburg Cemetery.

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the time of services Tuesday at the funeral home.
