Man Gets 8-16 Years in State Prison for Home Invasion
CLEARFIELD – A Virginia man charged with invading an elderly couple’s home and robbing them has pleaded guilty in plea and sentencing court in Clearfield County.
Austin Cory Eheart, 20, 9 Green Ct., Palmyra, VA, pleaded guilty to numerous counts of robbery, burglary, criminal conspiracy, false imprisonment and criminal mischief. In a second case, he pleaded guilty to additional counts of robbery, aggravated assault, and criminal conspiracy.
Woman Gets Jail for Stealing from DRMC
CLEARFIELD – A Grampian woman will spend time in jail for taking more than $45,000 while she was employed by the DuBois Regional Medical Center.
Grace E. Heuser, 43, 24 N. Third St., Grampian, pleaded guilty to 52 counts of theft by unlawful taking. Clearfield County President Judge Fredric J. Ammerman rejected the original plea for a six-month sentence and gave her nine months to two years less one day in jail and two years consecutive probation. She was fined $1,510 plus costs.

Sankey Looks Back on Year in Harrisburg
CLEARFIELD – State Rep. Tommy Sankey has lived the same real-life experiences as other people from Clearfield County. For him, these experiences ignited personal concerns about the future of Pennsylvania and the United States.
Sankey decided it was time to “get involved, offer new perspectives and be a breath of fresh air.” When former long-time State Rep. Camille “Bud” George announced he wouldn’t seek re-election to the 74th Legislative District, Sankey decided he wanted to take over that seat.
State Prison Teacher Pleads Guilty to having Intimate Relations with Inmate
CLEARFIELD – A former state prison employee charged with having an intimate relationship with a state prison inmate has pleaded guilty in Clearfield County Court.
Rebecca J. Williams, 55, 922 McAteer St., Houtzdale pleaded guilty to two counts each of institutional sexual assault and official oppression-arrest, search etc. She was sentenced to 60 days to one year in jail and two years consecutive probation. She was fined $600 plus costs and must complete counseling.
Nature Abounds Launches IceWatch USA Season, Seeks Volunteers
DUBOIS – Nature Abounds has announced the launch of the 2013-14 IceWatch season.
IceWatch USA engages volunteers from across the United States to monitor local waterways over the winter season. In as little as 10 minutes per visit, volunteers gather and report information, helping to analyze how the climate is changing in different regions of the United States and how ecosystems are reacting to the change.
Committee Selling Granite Sidewalk Tickets for “Ritz Walk of Fame”
CLEARFIELD – A special “Save the Ritz” committee has developed a plan to position the Ritz Theater for its digital upgrade and to keep it in the community.
Any business or individual can become a part of community history by purchasing advertising space in the sidewalk area in front of the Ritz Theater. This sidewalk advertising will be in place for many years.
County Will Not Count Challenged Absentee Ballot
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners voted, 3-0, yesterday to not count one absentee ballot, which faced two challenges.
Both Marjorie Moore and Mariel Kephart challenged Stacy Warrick-Williams’ right to vote by absentee ballot during the Nov. 5 Municipal Election. Their challenge was two-fold, reported Dawn Graham, election director.
CAUW Hits 76 Percent of Annual Campaign Goal
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield Area United Way held its second campaign report luncheon this week at the St. Charles Cafe Dining Room.
CAUW volunteers announced $29,176 in new donations. This brings the CAUW total to $185,260.28, or 76 percent, of the $245,500 campaign goal for 2013-14. These monies will benefit 25 local member agencies throughout eastern, southern and central Clearfield County.
WJAC-TV: 3 Shot near Pittsburgh High School; Gunman Sought

PITTSBURGH — School officials say three students were shot outside a Pittsburgh high school, and police are searching for a gunman.
Pittsburgh school district spokeswoman Ebony Pugh says the students were shot outside Brashear High School on Wednesday afternoon as they walked to a vehicle they’d all taken to school earlier in the day. She says their injuries appear to be non-life-threatening. Two were grazed in the head and one was shot in both the foot and arm. It’s not clear who shot them.
PennDOT Ready for Winter Travel, Motorists Urged to Prepare for Season
HARRISBURG – PennDOT Secretary Barry J. Schoch has called on motorists to join the department in its efforts to keep roadways safe through the upcoming season.
PennDOT has 5,400 operators and more than 2,250 trucks ready to maintain more than 40,000 miles of state-maintained roadway or 96,000 snow lane miles – enough miles to circle the globe nearly four times. A snow-lane is calculated as the miles of road multiplied by the number of lanes; which mean a one-mile section of four-lane roadway would equal four snow-lane miles.
