CLEARFIELD – A group of approximately 20 volunteers led by Greg and Laura Martell of Clearfield have opened the Praxis Prayer & Healing Room in Hyde with hopes of reaching out to “broken” individuals in the area.
The Martell’s have studied different ministry courses, including those for prayer and healing. Through their ministerial opportunities, the couple has met many individuals who “appear OK on the outside” but who are “broken on the inside” due to familial difficulties.
“Not everyone has a church to turn to,” said Greg Martell, adding “Not everyone has a loved one to go to. We just felt called to minister to these individuals who are broken emotionally and spiritually and who may have physical ailments.”
Praxis, he said, operates under the umbrella of the International Association of Healing Rooms, which is headquartered in Spokane, WA. Further, he said primary care practitioners have found many patients with physical ailments also have emotional stresses. These patients, he said, are being prescribed pain medications when the emotional aspects can be ministered to through prayer.
“We want to help these broken individuals over these emotional hurdles,” said Greg Martell. “We want to do what Christ has asked us to do, and that’s to heal the sick, raise the dead, cure those with leprosy and cast out demons.”
According to him, the couple planned to minister healing at Praxis. However, he said his wife, Laura Martell, felt called to incorporate prayer, so that individuals could visit to be in God’s presence similar to the International House of Prayer in Kansas City, MO.
Praxis, Greg Martell said, is not anything like the “New Age Christian Science.” At Praxis, he said they agree with individuals in asking God to minister healing to them. When these individuals leave Praxis, Greg Martell said, they’re relieved of a lot of oppression.
The Praxis Prayer & Healing Room is currently open from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m. Thursdays and by appointment. It is located at 1504 Washington Ave., P.O. Box 409, Hyde. Also, trained prayer and healing volunteers are willing to visit home- or bed-bound individuals who are not physically able to come in for prayer and healing.
Praxis, Greg Martell said, was not established by one particular church. In fact, he said its volunteers cross denominational lines. Laura Martell added Praxis was established with the help of others who shared the same calling, and “it’s pretty amazing what God can do” through them during the prayer and healing sessions.
“We’re putting everything to use that we’ve learned in church and taking it beyond church walls,” said Laura Martell. “We want broken individuals to know that God wants to meet them where they’re at, and we’re here to pray and intercede on their behalf.”
