Library to Launch e-Reader Lending Service

CLEARFIELD – The Joseph & Elizabeth Shaw Public Library has announced the launch of an e-Reader lending service for its users at 4 p.m. Nov. 22.

The event will include light refreshments and permit users to join library staff for their first opportunity to hear about this new service.  Individuals may also check out an e-Reader on a first come, first serve basis.  The Books-on-Board, or B.O.B, is funded by former resident, Foster Schucker in memory of his father, Robert “Bob” Schucker, a long-time friend and supporter of the Shaw Public Library.

The Shaw Public Library is excited to have this opportunity to loan e-Readers to the community.  “The e-Reader lending service showcases how libraries are transforming what we offer to reflect the advances that technology makes possible,” stated Paula Collins, library director. “We are extremely fortunate to have such wonderful and supportive individuals looking out for us to make projects like this happen.”

The B.O.B. project highlights Information Literacy, one of the five literacies of the Pennsylvania Library Association PA Forward | Pennsylvania Libraries initiative. PA Forward, launched by the Pennsylvania Library Association (PaLA) in 2012, supports the efforts of libraries across the state as literacy leaders in their communities.

The five literacies of PA Forward are the foundation of the services and programs offered at the Shaw Public Library. “What a thrilling time this is for the Clearfield community and users of the Shaw Public Library as the e-Reader lending service promotes PA Forward Information Literacy,” stated Collins.

The Shaw Public Library is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10 a.m. until 9 p.m., and Fridays from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m.  Visit the Shaw Public Library’s Web site at www.clearfield.org/shaw to learn more about the library and its services and programs.
