Gerald G. Mitchell, 87, of Clearfield died Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013 at the DuBois Regional Medical Center. Born Dec. 21, 1925, he was the son of the late Russell C. and Teresa (Notor) Mitchell.
He was a veteran of World War II and served in the U.S. Army Air Corp.
He was married to Gloria A. Vale Mitchell. She preceded him in death on Oct. 20, 1976.
He was an insurance salesman for the Metropolitan Life Insurance Company in the Washington, D.C./Maryland area for many years. He was very dedicated to his entire family. He loved to golf and watch his grandchildren at their sporting events. Music was most significant in the Mitchell family.
He was a member of the St. Francis Roman Catholic Church in Clearfield.
He is survived by his children, Andrew P. Mitchell of Philipsburg, Marianne Mitchell of Clearfield, Paula Spilman and her husband, Wayne of DuBois and Eleanor Watson and her husband, Andy of Portland, OR; his brothers, Russell Mitchell of Camp Springs, MD, Melvin Mitchell and Gordon Mitchell, both of Mont Clair, VA, and Lester Mitchell of Alexandria, VA; his sisters, Marian Mitchell and Jean Cistaro, both of Mont Clair, VA, Elaine Fletcher of Boonsboro, MD and Margaret Grado of Ashburn, VA; and seven grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his sons, Christopher Mitchell and Craig Mitchell, his brothers, Anthony and David Mitchell and one sister, Joan Fimiani.
There will be no public visitation.
A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Chapel at Calvary Cemetery in Clearfield.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
