Obituary Notice: Dale W. Schindler

Dale W. Schindler, 71, of Houtzdale, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2013 at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.

Born Nov. 17, 1941 in Gowanda, NY he was the son of Norman M. and Merle (Finch) Schindler who precede him in death.

Mr. Schindler served in the U.S. Navy for 20 years as a parachute rigger.  He worked for 15 years as an instructor of upholstery at the State Correctional Institute at Rockview.

He was a life member of the American Legion Post No. 313, Osceola Mills; VFW Post No. 5020, Osceola Mills; Loyal Order of Moose Houtzdale, PA Lodge No. 327; AMVets Post No. 159, Philipsburg, Morann Club; Charter member of the American Legion Riders Chapter No. 17; and PRIDE MC Corrections Employees Motorcycle Club.

On Aug. 28, 1970 in Blasdell, NY, he wed the former Nancy P. Phillips, who survives in Houtzdale.

He’s survived by six children, Sherry (Howard) Bloodsworth, Century, Fla.; Randall Schindler and his fiancé, Faith of Faunce; Todd Schindler of Derby, NY; Melissa (Robert)

Schindler-Thornton of State College; Heather (Larry) Brown of Houtzdale; and Dennis Donaldson of Blasdell, NY and six grandchildren, Jesse Schindler, Joshua Bloodsworth, Jessica Bloodsworth, Brianna Brown, Jared Dowlin and Larry Brown, III; and a great-granddaughter, Mazzy Bloodsworth.

He is also survived by three brothers, Hugh “Buster” (Jackie) Schindler of Gowanda, NY; Clair (Lucille) Schindler of Collins, NY; Bruce (Debbie) Schindler of Texas; one sister, Lela (William) Struble of Otto, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mr. Schindler is preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Patricia Geil and three brothers, Norman L. Schindler, Eugene Schindler and Bryne Schindler.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Monday and from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Kruise Funeral Home Inc., Madera. A Moose memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

The Osceola Mills Honor Guard will perform military honors at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.  Funeral services will begin immediately following the military honors with the Rev. Robert Ford officiating.
