CASD Hears School Performance Profile Scores
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield school board heard the new school performance profile scores for 2012-13 for four of its five schools during a presentation by Bruce Nicolls, director of curriculum and coordinator of federal programs, at last night’s committee meetings.
The Pennsylvania School Performance Profile has replaced Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP). Pennsylvania was among the 41 other states granted the federal waiver to the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB).
MSC Announces David Spigelmyer as President
PITTSBURGH – After a two-month search process, the Marcellus Shale Coalition (MSC) announced today that David Spigelmyer has been named as the organization’s president. Spigelmyer, with a 30-year career in the energy industry, will assume the position effective Monday.
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners announced the results of its 2012 audit of the county’s financial records during Tuesday’s regular meeting.
Johnson, Nelson, Shimmel & Thomas LLP of Clearfield, the county’s certified public accountant, conducted the audit. Commissioner Joan Robinson-McMillen, chair, reviewed the highlights of the audit at the meeting.
The audit, she said, showed the county ended the year with a general fund balance of $4.8 million. She said this was down from 2011; however, they were not surprised by this outcome.
Briefing Slated for Public Assistance Applicants
DUBOIS – Department of Emergency Services Director Joe Bigar Jr. has announced an applicant’s briefing about public assistance due to the flash flood events that occurred in late June through July in Clearfield County.
The briefing will be held Monday at the DuBois Senior Community Center, located at 120 W. Park Ave., in DuBois. Registration will begin at 5 p.m. with the program to follow at 5:30 p.m. The briefing is expected to last approximately four hours.
CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield school board discussed the possibility of its sophomore and senior high school students taking class field trips at Monday night’s committee meetings.
High School Principal Tim Janocko told the board he would like the sophomore class to visit Gettysburg and the senior class to visit Washington, D.C. He felt it was important for the students to see these sites first-hand and to help them to become better citizens.
County Announces Availability of Affordable Housing Trust Funds
CLEARFIELD – Clearfield County is now accepting applications for projects to be funded through its Affordable Housing Trust, announced Planning Director Jodi Brennan at Tuesday’s commissioner’s meeting.
Charges Bound Over in Cemetery Vandalism Case
CLEARFIELD – The last vandal accused of knocking over dozens of gravestones at the Hillcrest Cemetery in September had all charges bound over to court following a preliminary hearing before Magisterial District Judge Jerome Nevling during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Forgery Suspects Appear for Preliminary Hearings
CLEARFIELD – Two people allegedly involved with forging almost $10,000 worth of checks appeared before Magisterial District Judge Jerome Nevling for preliminary hearings during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Daniel Michael Brodman, 30, of Curwensville has been charged with conspiracy/receiving stolen property; conspiracy/other reason access device unauthorized by issuer; and possession of access device knowing counterfeit/altered. He had his hearing continued until 11:15 a.m. Nov. 6 at the CCJ.
Brandon Scott Sass, 22, of Hyde has been charged with other reason access device unauthorized by issuer; possession of access device knowing counterfeit/altered; and receiving stolen property. Sass waived all charges to court, and his bail was modified to $25,000 unsecured.
