DUBOIS – Department of Emergency Services Director Joe Bigar Jr. has announced an applicant’s briefing about public assistance due to the flash flood events that occurred in late June through July in Clearfield County.

The briefing will be held Monday at the DuBois Senior Community Center, located at 120 W. Park Ave., in DuBois. Registration will begin at 5 p.m. with the program to follow at 5:30 p.m. The briefing is expected to last approximately four hours.

Clearfield County municipalities, authorities and public safety agencies can attend if they sustained damages or incurred costs in responding and recovering from the flash flood events that occurred between June 26 and July 11. Applicants must have at least $1,000 worth or more in damage or response costs. Individual homeowners or businesses are not eligible for this assistance, said Bigar.

Bigar has strongly encouraged that each potential applicant be accompanied by the person who will be processing the documentations for their reimbursements. He said this would include management, public works and accounting/finances. During the briefing, Bigar said application procedures, administrative requirements, funding and program eligibility will be addressed.

The applicant’s briefing is a meeting conducted by the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) to inform prospective applicants of available assistance and eligibility requirements for obtaining federal assistance under the declared event, explained Bigar.

During the briefing, he said PEMA will present the incident period and a description of the declared event. Applicant, work and cost eligibility will be reviewed and the project formulation process will be introduced.

PEMA, Bigar said, will also discuss funding options, record keeping and documentation requirements, as well as special consideration issues. Applicants will schedule times for applications to be discussed at the conclusion of the meeting.

Please RSVP to Bigar by no later than 12 p.m. Monday at jbigar@clearfield911.com or at 814-765-5357 (please leave message if there isn’t any answer).
