Sophie M. Kwak, 77 of Philipsburg, and formerly of Kingston died Monday, Oct. 14, 2013 at the Mount Nittany Medical Center in State College.
She was the daughter of the late Theodore and Josephine (Osuch) Kwak born Sept. 9, 1936 in Edwardsville.
Ms. Kwak was a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church in Silkworth. She was employed as a nurse’s aide at the Retreat at Shickshinny State Hospital in Shickshinny until her retirement. She was a graduate of the Edwardsville High School.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Rose and Agnes and a brother, Stephen. She was the last of her generation.
Ms. Kwak is survived by two sons, Carl F. Morrissey Sr. of Osceola Mills and David A. Morrissey and his wife, Frances of Jacksonville, Fla. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Carl F. Morrissey Jr. and Karlie A. Morrissey, both of Osceola Mills.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Philipsburg, with the Rev. Robert J. Kelly, as celebrant.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday at the Beezer-Heath funeral Home, 719 E. Spruce St., Philipsburg. The rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
