Clara M. Chittester, 86, of DuBois died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013 at her home in Sabula. Mrs. Chittester was born Sept. 24, 1927 in Brockway, the daughter of Frans B. and Freda M. (Hartzell) Johnson Rupert.
She graduated in 1945 from the Brockway Area High School. She had been employed by B.F. Goodrich for 10 years and Brockway Glass for seven years. She was also the owner/operator of the Farmview Trailer Court.
She was a member of the Sabula United Methodist Church and the Hickory Grange No. 1285. She enjoyed quilting, working with all types of crafts and journaling the many camping trips she took with her husband.
She’s survived by her husband, Gordon L. Chittester, whom she married Oct. 15, 1945; three sons, Raymond L. Chittester Sr. and his wife, Mimi, John G. Chittester and his wife, Linda and Bryan W. Chittester and his wife, Debra, all of DuBois, two daughters, Brenda R. Messick and her husband, Thomas of Ceresco, NE and Valerie M. Nelson and her husband, Edwin of DuBois; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; a step-brother, David Rupert and his wife, Wanietta of Reynoldsville and a step-sister, Henrietta Rahalla of Brookville.
Mrs. Chittester was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Anna M. Coleman-Kessler; and a brother, Frans B. Johnson Sr.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the Mohney-Yargar Funeral Chapel Inc., DuBois, with the Rev. Ken Sherwood officiating. Burial will be in Morningside Cemetery.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Monday at the funeral home.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Sabula Fire Hall, the Hickory Grange, the Sabula United Methodist Church or charity of the donor’s choice.
