Obituary Notice: Barbara L. Bamat

Barbara L. Bamat, 88, of Karthaus died Wednesday, Oct. 9, 2013 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield. She was born Jan. 30, 1925 in Glen Richey, a daughter of the late James and Hazel (Dixon) Harper.

Mrs. Bamat was a homemaker who took great pride in raising her family. She was a lead volunteer for the Karthaus Food Bank and served as judge of elections in Karthaus for a number of years. She was a member of the Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, Karthaus. There, she was the financial secretary and served on church council.

She is survived by four children, Marilyn J. Fanning and her husband, James, Craig F. Bamat and his wife, Mary Beth and R. Scott Bamat and his wife, Michelle, all of Karthaus, and William Bradley Bamat and his wife, Kathy of Bellefonte.

Surviving are nine grandchildren, Nicole Petriskey and her husband, Patrick, Jonathan, Stefan and Laura Bamat, William J. Bamat and his wife, Sarah and Brett, Timothy, Chase and Chad Bamat; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Alberta M. Hernandez of Amherst, NY; a brother, James D. Harper and his wife, Beatrice of Kenmore, NY; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William N. Bamat on Nov. 11, 2001 and whom she wed Sept. 4, 1950 in Clearfield. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, William L. and Gerald Terrance ‘Terry’ Harper.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the St. John Lutheran Church, Clearfield, with the Rev. Matthew Finney and the Rev. Robert J. Way officiating. Burial will follow in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.

Friends will be received from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Sunday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home, Clearfield and from 10 a.m. until the hour of services Monday at the church.
