John Louis Soltis Jr., 85, of Clearfield and formerly of Hawk Run died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Clearfield.
He was the son of the late John L. Sr. and Mary (Verost) Soltis born July 31, 1928 in Hawk Run. He married the former Norma Ara Wilsoncroft on April 21, 1953 in Winchester, VA. She preceded him in death March 30, 2013.
He was a member of Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hawk Run. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Louis Jenkins Post #3450 in Philipsburg.
He was also a member of the Jednota Lodge, Branch 134 in Grassflat. He was employed for 38 years with the Philipsburg A&P Supermarket until its closing. He worked at various other area businesses until retiring.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Howe and Margaret Stonebraker and a brother, James Soltis.
He’s survived by two daughters, Anna Marie English and her husband, David of Emporium and Amy Lynn Lockey and her husband, James of Hawk Run and a son, John L. “Buddy” Soltis III and his wife, Phyllis of (Gearhartville) Philipsburg.
Surviving are her sisters, Josephine Soltis, Delores “Toots” Sudik and Marcella Hugney and her husband, Marvin, all of Hawk Run, and Annetta Yingling and her husband, William of Philipsburg and two brothers, Joseph E. Soltis Sr. of Philipsburg and Edward Soltis and his wife, Barbara of Hawk Run.
He is also survived by six grandchildren, Thaddeus English of Elizabeth City, NC, Carissa E. Bailey and her husband, P.J. of Wellington, Fla., Melissa Soltis and her fiancé, Joe Donato of St. Cloud, Fla., Alyson Hokanson and her husband, Chris of Culpeper, VA, Carl Barquist of Florida and John Barquist of Hawk Run; a great-grandson, Zander English of Elizabeth City, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a future date at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Hawk Run. Burial will be at the Stoneville Cemetery in West Decatur.
There will be no public visitation.
