Percy John Charles, 84, of Grampian died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2013 at his residence.
Born Jan. 10, 1929, he was the son of George A. and B. Jane (Pentz) Charles. He attended the Bible Fellowship Church, Draucker’s Woods in Luthersburg. In addition, he was one of the founding members of the Grampian-Penn-Bloom Volunteer Fire Company, where he was honored in 2007 as a VIP Lifetime Member in the Grampian Days Parade
During his life, he worked for the Greg Drilling Company. He worked for the Howe’s Leather Co. as a repair crewman and as a foreman for Superior Pet Products. He also worked for the state Department of Transportation Photo Center in Clearfield. He owned and operated Charles Concessions, where he enjoyed working with his wife at many fairs and festivals throughout Clearfield County.
On Nov. 5, 1948 in Curwensville, he wed the former Marilyn B. Solley, who survives along with three children, Larry L. Charles and his wife, Dorothy and Linda L. McCall and her husband, George, both of Grampian, and Richard L. Charles and his wife, Pam of Clearfield. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren, Ryan Charles, Molley Charles, Shaun Charles, Jason Charles, Greg Charles, Paul Charles, Mark McCall, Melissa (McCall) Hollabaugh, Dan Charles, Damien Charles and Dustin Charles. In addition, he’s survived by a daughter-in-law, Linda Charles of Grampian.
He was a wonderful father and husband and will be sadly missed by his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Michael P. Charles; a daughter, Lugene Lynne Charles; an infant brother, Wilfred Charles; and a brother, George Lynn Charles. He was the last member of his generation.
The family would like to thank the DuBois Regional Medical Center Hospice; Hospice Nurse, Diane Waroquier; and caregivers, Brianna Harris, Jenna Smith, Kelsey Reed and Teresa Cowder for all of the wonderful care they gave him.
Funeral services for Percy Charles will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville, with the Revs. Charles M. Lee Jr. and Kevin Beard co-officiating. Burial will be in the Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Grampian.
Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Sunday and from 9:30 a.m. until time of services Monday at the funeral home.
