Lenore Harriet Peterman Birescki, 97, of Curwensville died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 at her residence.
Born Sept. 7, 1916 in Lumber City, she was the daughter of Harry and Lucretia B. (Hipps) Peterman. She was retired from Kent Sportswear in Curwensville after 30 years of service and was a member of the Amalgamated Clothing and Textile Workers Union Local #118C.
She was a 1938 graduate from the Pennsylvania School for the Deaf, where she played basketball from 1935 through 1938. She was inducted into the school’s Hall of Fame in May of 1990 for being an outstanding athlete. She enjoyed Pittsburgh Steeler and Penn State Nittany Lion football and enjoyed talking sports and politics with her grandsons.
On Oct. 4, 1940, she wed Andrew A. Birescki in West Chester and who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son, James Birescki; a daughter, Judy B. Nowak; a sister, Christine Volland; and a brother, James Peterman.
Surviving are a daughter, Renee Woolridge and her husband, Jack of Clearfield; two granddaughters, Dawn Fama and partner, Wendy Fama of Marietta, GA and Kory Renfroe and her husband, Eric of Kennesaw, GA; and two grandsons, Andrew Woolridge of Arlington, VA and J.R. Woolridge III of Clearfield.
At the request of Mrs. Birescki, there will be no public visitation and a memorial service will be conducted at a later date by request of the family. Burial will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park, Hyde.
