County Approves CDBG Sub-contracts for Community Projects

CLEARFIELD – The Clearfield County Commissioners approved the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) sub-contract agreements for two community improvement projects during Tuesday’s regular meeting.

Lisa Kovalick, community development specialist, said the community projects were the Coalport Streetscape and the demolition of the old Madera High School along state Route 53 in Bigler Township.

She said the streetscape project has really come along in Coalport, and the state Department of Transportation (PennDOT) will also pave the roadway through that area. Further, the Coalport Streetscape Project, she said, consisted of two sub-contract agreements from separate years with one being for $100,000 and the other for approximately $44,000.

Kovalick said Bigler Township had put a lot of work into building a recreational park in the area of the old Madera High School. After the demolition of the school, she said the township would like to install additional playground equipment at the recreational park.

Commissioner John A. Sobel said he was recently in Coalport and very surprised and impressed with the beauty of its streetscape. Commissioner Mark B. McCracken added that both were very good community improvement projects that both the Coalport and Bigler Township communities should be proud of.
