Obituary Notice: William Rakestraw Shugarts

William Rakestraw Shugarts, 85, of Reynoldsville died Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 at Christ the King Manor.

Born Aug. 12, 1928 in DuBois, he was the son of the late Lester and Irene (Rakestraw) Shugarts.

On Oct. 18, 1952, he married Lois Brown.  She preceded him in death Feb. 7, 2012.

He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in the Korean War as a sergeant

He worked for Western PA Teamster at Shaw Trucking as an over-the-road driver for 35 years.  He also was the office manager at Pennway Express for four years.

He was a life-time member of the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association.  He loved to travel, attend rodeos, watch sporting events and spend time with his family.

He is survived by two sons, Scot Shugarts of DuBois and Bret Shugarts and his wife, Carla of Evans, GA; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and two sisters, Jean Opel from Cocoa Beach, Fla. and Sue Ullery and her husband, Thomas of Ft. Myers, Fla.

Friends will be received from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. Sunday at the Goble-Baronick Funeral Home.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday at the St. Luke’s United Church of Christ in Luthersburg with Pastor David Nagele officiating.  Full military honors will be accorded by the members of the DuBois Area Honor Guard from the church.

Burial will be in St. Luke’s Cemetery.
