John W. Ferguson, 81, of Morrisdale died Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2013 at his residence. Born Jan. 22, 1932, he was the son of the late Blake and Jane Weaver Ferguson.
Mr. Ferguson was affiliated with the Free Methodist Church, Gearhartville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served during the Korean War. He was a member of the UMWA. Mr. Ferguson was a logger and retired as a coal miner.
He was married to Gertrude E. Hubler Ferguson. She survives in Morrisdale. He’s survived by a daughter, Joyce Colton of Clearfield and two sons, Thomas L. Hockenberry Jr. of Philipsburg and Jay L. Hockenberry of Dalzell, SC.
Also surviving are two sisters, Ora Belle Dunkle and her husband, Jim of Morrisdale and Viola Hubler of Philipsburg; two brothers, Robert Ferguson and his wife, Cleora of Morrisdale and James Ferguson of Clearfield; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, John Ferguson Jr. and one grandson.
A funeral service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday at the chapel of the Strange & Weaver Funeral Service, Morrisdale, with Lay Minister Thomas Hockenberry III, his grandson, officiating. Burial will be in the Palestine United Methodist Cemetery, Morrisdale.
Friends will be received from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday and from 11 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the funeral home.
Military honors will be accorded by the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard at the funeral home.
