Commission for Women Announces Fall Kickoff Workshop, Meeting Schedule

UNIVERSITY PARK  – The Penn State Commission for Women is holding its annual fall kickoff workshop to welcome and orient new members on Wednesday, Sept. 25. The event will be held at the Hintz Family Alumni Center from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Refreshments and lunch will be provided.

“The kickoff is a way for people to learn more about what the commission does,” said Courtney Karmelita, co-chairwoman of the program committee. “We use a ‘speed-dating’ format so new members can determine which committee is the best match for their interests.”

“The work of the commission is primarily accomplished by the committees,” explained Lisa German, chairwoman of the commission. “That’s where the action is.”

Starting in October, the commission will hold monthly public meetings open to anyone in the Penn State community.

“These meeting are intended as a kind of informal professional development on topics most relevant to women,” noted Karmelita.

The public meetings are held from 12:15 to 1:30 p.m. in 404 Old Main. For those who cannot attend in person, there is a meet-me bridge at 814-863-2330 and an Adobe Connect meeting room at https://meeting.psu.edu/cfwmeeting/.

— Wednesday, Oct. 23: Sexual assault awareness
— Wednesday, Nov. 20: TIAA-CREF
— Wednesday, Dec. 18: Women with influence panel discussion
